Stogumber Wildflower Meadow, Somerset – 2026 update

Stogumber is a small village nestled between the high moors of Exmoor and the rolling Quantock Hills. Each summer one farmer’s field becomes a riot of colour in a beautiful fundraising venture.

It has been a few years since there have been wildflowers at Stogumber. If things change in 2026 I will update as soon as I know

The flower field is a small corner of a much larger oat field that rolls across the landscape. On the horizon is the Somerset coast with its rocky shoreline and fossil-laden cliffs. In the distance, the industrial south coast of Wales around Swansea and Port Talbot can be seen on a clear day.

The wildflowers can be seen in later June and early July each year. A different charity is chosen to receive the donations made by visitors each year. It’s a simple arrangement with no parking stewards, no facilities, no food. Just a meadow with paths mowed through and around to allow you to wander.

Flowers in the Meadow

This meadow is a changing landscape with cornflowers and poppies dominating followed by large daisies and marigolds as the season changes. In the mix are oats, which escaped from the main crop as well as beautiful grasses. Delicate pinks from the corncockle and red campion can be seen buried deep in the greens of the poppy stems. Bees and butterflies hop from flower to flower in a busy and bustling frenzy of life.

Photographing the Wild Flowers

This is a beautiful location for flower photography. The paths have been cut to allow you to walk through the meadow and see it from different angles. There is space to sit on the path and still allow others to pass and as it is fairly quiet. You may even have the meadow to yourself.

The way the paths are cut allows you to photograph deep in the meadow without destroying the flowers and plants for other visitors.

A path through a wildflower meadow

Bring a wide-angle lens to capture the meadow and the landscape beyond as well as a macro lens to capture the details of all of the flowers. With bees and butterflies all around there is an endless number of photo opportunities in the meadow.

When to visit the Stogumber Wildflowers

While the meadow is open in June and July it is changing day by day. As the flowers come through their appearance can change dramatically and it is worth returning.

To see the poppies at their freshest visit in the early morning, however, if you want beautiful skies then the meadow is perfect for sunset.

How to Find the Wildflower Meadow in Stogumber

Getting to the wildflower meadow is a bit of an adventure. Stogumber is located in Somerset and can be reached by either driving over the Quantock Hills or following the A39 along the Somerset coast. At the Tropiquarium roundabout on the A39 take the small road that heads away from the sea and into the hills towards Stogumber.

Once in the village follow the small red signs which will take you to the flower field.

There is a small parking area and a marked parking area for blue badge holders a little closer to the centre of the field. Park sensibly as there is only room for about 10 cars which can quickly fill up.

Donations can be made in the collection box in the field or using the QR code that is available at the field.
