Falls of Falloch, Loch Lomond and Trossachs
The Falls of Falloch are a hidden surprise after the long winding road up the shore of Loch Lomond in Scotland. The A82 is a stunning drive, but there is always a need to stretch your legs and this is the perfect place. Just over three miles from Crianlarich this waterfall and small glen is a peaceful little stop in the north part of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
Compared to some waterfalls Falls of Falloch is petit, standing at just 10m high but, the deep glen and raging river make it a stunning sight. The River Falloch passes through Glen Falloch as it makes its way towards Loch Lomond at Ardlui. A path follows the river to the falls from the small parking area and the noise of the rushing water through the glen intensifies as you get closer to the falls.
To the side of the waterfall is a weathered metal walkway. With an open but tunnel-like feel the walkway is part of the Scottish Scenic Routes project. This project attempted to enhance the natural landscape with a series of art installations. The installation, Woven Sound, was designed by John Kennedy. The Woven Sound amplifies the sound of the falls, with the platform providing a sheltered and close view of the waterfall. At the end of the walkway, a barrier is inscribed with extracts from poet Dorothy Wordsworth’s (sister of Willam Wordsworth) diary that she wrote when she visited the falls in 1803.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
This small waterfall is located on the A82 one mile north of the Drovers Inn and 3 miles south of Crianlarich. There is a brown sign showing the parking area. This parking area can be busy but people don’t tend to stay long.
The walk to the falls is over rough ground that can be muddy and the rocks around the waterfall are slippery after rain.
